What is BiG?
The Brighton Illustrators Group (BiG) is not an illustration agency but a group run by illustrators for illustrators on a voluntary basis. Since BiG was formed 21 years ago its role has been to support and advise freelance illustrators living in Brighton and the surrounding area. Our aim it to share information about professional practice though our monthly meetings, newsletters and website as well as providing networking opportunities. Our further principal aim is to promote the use of illustration through our website and raise the profile of the group.
Who are BiG members?
The group encompasses the vast range of experiences from recent graduates to illustrators with more than 30 years experience. Our members work in all areas of illustration, from editorial, children’s publishing, merchandising to the growth area of new media.
What happens at the meetings?
We have informal meetings featuring guest speakers or using our own BiG members which provide a rich resource and range of experiences. Our programme offers a chance to see individual illustrator’s folios, to gain a valuable insight into many aspects of being an illustrator (such as fees self-promotion or agents) or just to share a meet and mingle evening with other members. The meetings are the last Thursday of the month and we currently meet at Castor and Pollux Gallery on Brighton seafront. For information about our next meeting see Next Meeting on the home page.
How can I join BiG?
There is no selection procedure for the group and members pay an annual fee to join. For your BiG membership fee you will get ten BiG meetings a year, ten e-newsletters, ten examples of your work on the BiG website. There will be additional charges for exhibitions, parties and any further promotional material. Our only criterion is that you live in the BN postcode area.
How much does it cost?
The current annual membership fee is £40.

We will soon be able to take membership payments on-line, but in the meantime, please send a cheque for £40 (made payable to BiG or Brighton Illustrators Group) to our membership secretary Penny Dann at: The Annexe, 43 Belmont Street, Brighton BN1 4HN.
